Winnipeg – Union and Aboriginal leaders are meeting this weekend in Winnipeg to strengthen their ability to support Aboriginal members in their workplaces. Aboriginal members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) are holding their Aboriginal Council Inaugural Gathering, November 14th and 15th at the Inn at the Forks.

Ron Chartrand – Manitoba Métis Federation, Winnipeg Region VP
Ron Evans (or representative) – Manitoba Grand Chief
Topics that will be addressed during the event include:
building a partnership between CUPE and Manitoba’s Aboriginal community,
CUPE support for Aboriginal people in Manitoba through education and employment,
finding new ways CUPE can support Aboriginal members.
The CUPE Manitoba Aboriginal Council was formed in 2006. The Council encourages the participation of Aboriginal (First Nations, Métis, Inuit) workers in the Union, addresses issues facing Aboriginal people and advises and assists CUPE Manitoba in supporting Aboriginal workers. Shirley Langan is the Chair of the CUPE Manitoba Aboriginal Council.
