MSD offers a bilingual-bicultural environment using American Sign Language which has it own signs and grammar to help build self-esteem in their students. (www.msd.winnipeg.mb.ca)
Each classroom is equipped with a 27inch TV and at least one computer to help the teachers present the material. Hallways offer video screen announcements in addition to these announcements voiced on loud speakers to help visiting public as well.
Students at MSD are taught the same core courses as any other school in Manitoba as set by the Manitoba Ministry of Education. MSD has sports teams and other extra-curricular activities as well. Bus transportation to and from the school is provided to students within the city, while dorms are set up to house students during the week who live outside of Winnipeg. Another excellent feature is that students who wish to attend regular high school are free to do so and will be accompanied by an ASL interpreter. MSD has and will continue to help youth with hearing impairments get well rounded educations and find jobs and careers they truly enjoy.
