In 1972, the Government of Alberta passed the Alberta Bill of Rights. The Bill was included in the Human Rights, Citizenship, and Multiculturalism Act of 1996, an act stating that all Albertans have an equal right to dignity and justice regardless of “race, religious beliefs, colour, gender, physical disability, mental disability, age, ancestry, place of origin, marital status, source of income, or family status,”
